Project 1

Cerus Corporate Website

Primary Goals

Above all else, this website must enforce the Cerus mission of safeguarding the world’s blood supply.  We must do this through our words, our visuals and our architecture.

Build an infrastructure that supports a focus on 2 products (with the ability to scale products). This includes defining a master navigational architecture that accommodates a multi-product solution.

Elevate design to a more modern layout, interface and aesthetic to create more clarity, ease of navigation, and position the brand as forward thinking and industry leading.

Introduce strategically driven  structural elements that facilitate user goals. How can we apply design thinking to build creative approaches to our content?

We must build a platform that speaks to both existing and future employees by painting a vivid picture of Cerus’ accomplishments and a roadmap for its future.

Solution Overview

Now that we know what we need to do, let's talk about how we're going to do it. Here are a few ideas to get us going.

FOllowing the 4 pillars

Craft a powerful hero section that packs a punch. This is our one and only chance to make a first impression and plant a flag in the ground, setting the tone and vision for the rest of the user’s interaction with our brand. We want a hero section that is strong, clear and very certain of itself. The way to communicate that visually is by clearing out the clutter and leading with a singular, strong statement.

What if we immediately followed our flag planting statement with direct examples of exactly how we are leading the industry and safeguarding the world’s blood supply?

  • A module that shuffles through the Cerus products, briefly describing how they have pushed the industry forward with links to their respective websites.
  • Also to include pipeline products.
And then we walk through how we work with our partners, perhaps visualizing the supply chain and highlighting our involvement at each step.

And then, finally, tying it all back to the patient.

  • Perhaps we showcase real life stories of people who have been impacted by our products.
  • Grid/quilt of images of our patients
  • Visualized data / animated counters of how many people have been positively effected by Cerus products

Other ideas

  • Rather than building a pipeline page that showcases “whats next” for Cerus, what if we built an interactive timeline that allowed viewers to get a birds eye glimpse of the company’s past, present and future.
  • Flat versus tiered nav
  • The navigational structure is our first opportunity to better organize the user experience.
  • Traditional nav bars have been evolving a lot in the last few years. They’re being re-invented and re-imagined to support the unique goals of the organization.
  • We must determine how heavily we prioritize driving attention to the core products versus other action items and then build a tiered navigation

Currently the website is divided into a significant number of sub pages.

  • Dated SEO practices
  • Audiences > inform strategic content decisions
  • No need to prioritize organic search traffic
  • Create layers of information
  • Allow the user to quickly scan to find relevant content and them choose to dive deeper
  • Ex: Blood Matters
  • Consolidating sub pages to Master Section page and 2-3 Sub Section pages.

Our belief

We believe that great, strategic design will elicit an emotional connection with your audience that drives them to stay engaged and take action with your brand.

Goals

First things first, we all know that a pretty facade alone does not a great website make, but a polished look and feel is absolutely crucial in the success of this project. We believe that great design has the power to create a sense of trust and authority with your audience. It has the power to capture attention, foster engagement and ultimately, drive the user to take action. We need to develop an evolved design aesthetic that speaks specifically to the Asia Catalyst audience. Something modern, something clean, something evocative without being kitschy.

But we must ensure that at the heart of all of our creative and technical decisions, we’re always aware of how we’re conveying the core pillars of innovation, authority and trust.

Finally, the most important piece of this entire puzzle is ensuring that whatever we build ultimately and difitively tells the Asia Catalyst story. Who are you and what do you do? How do we use narrative and visual storytelling to communicate the breadth and depth of the Asia Catalyst experience.

Solution Overview

Now that we know what we need to do, let's talk about how we're going to do it. Here are a few ideas to get us going.

Big ideas

In order to effectively tell our story, we must give users context within which to view the organization. Understanding where you’ve been, and how you got to where you are now will not only serve as a vehicle to highlight your accomplishments, but will also give the user real world insight into what you do and how you do it.

I also want to think about tackling that same issue from another angle, what better way to tell the story of Asia Catalyst than through the eyes of the people themselves. Our website will celebrate the stories of the people that have been touched by the organization. Putting a human face to the abstract concepts and achievements will serve to provide a new window into the inner-workings of the organization.

In order to inspire action, we need to give people the right information at the right time. What good are resources if they’re buried on the website? How can we strategically design the architecture of the website so it’s easy for users to navigate, while also introducing them to actionable resources at relevant times. Let’s bring these action guides and toolkits to the forefront of the website and make them compelling for people to engage with.

Design ideas

Colorful. Accessible. Positive. Graphics.

With all the necessary architecture, content, and design elements in hand we’ll create the first working version of your website.
Step 5
Step 6

We have honed and refined a very specific process over the years that has led to hundreds of successful projects, here’s a brief overview of how it works.

Step 1

Business Discovery

Before we do anything else, we need to understand the intricacies of your business. How does it work? What are its core offerings? Who are the target audiences? What are the businesses short term and long term goals? How are you positioned against competitors in your market?
Step 1
Step 2

Brand Exercises

Once we understand the business, it’s time to start thinking about the brand. We’ll run through a series of “branding exercises” that we’ve designed to coax out a sense of what you want your brand to convey. This is the fun part!
Step 2
Step 2

Mood Boards

Based on the data gathered in the first two stages, we will present a series of mood boards (examples we’ve gathered from around the web) that we believe best reflect your preferences while aligning with stated business objectives and audience.
Step 2
Step 4

Design

Now that we’ve determined your likes/dislike from our mood board samples, we will take all of the information from the first 3 stages and begin our design prototyping. This may include everything from your custom logo to typeface selection, color palette, patterns, icons and more.
Step 4
Step 5

Finalize

Once we come to an agreed upon design, we will package up and finalize all design assets so that you can have your full new brand in one, easily accessible place.
Step 5
Step 6

Brand Bible

Lastly, we’ll put it all together in your brand bible. This is one document that includes everything there is to know about your new visual identity system. Take this document and share it with your employees and everyone who works with your brand to ensure that the brand remains consistent and authoritative over time.
Step 6
Step 8

Collateral Suite

Finally, we’ll take your new visual identity system and roll it out through all of your marketing collateral. Business cards, marketing brochures, website designs, social media graphics, email newsletters etc.

Meet Our team

What you see is what you get

Unlike bigger agencies, there will be no dishing you off to junior staff once we land the gig. We keep our client roster small and prioritize long term relationships. This means that if we’re taking you on as a client, you are very important to us.

What sets us apart

As a small team, we value quality, not volume. Our business is built on word of mouth and repeat projects, so an unhappy client is absolutely detrimental to our success. In fact, 50% of our clients have been with us since year one.

What does this mean for you? Simple, we’re going to do everything in our power to make sure you’re happy. No nickle-and-diming for small revisions, no hidden costs, no ignored emails. We’re in it for the long haul and we’ll do everything we can to make sure we have a lasting partnership between our companies.

Agility and flexibility is one of our greatest assets. Brands come to us when they’re tired of paying for the overhead that accompanies many larger agencies (after all, who do you think is paying for that pool table in their office?) We’re designed to be flexible so you can scale our services up and down as needed.

There are plenty of agencies out there that can make you a pretty logo or a fancy website. What sets us apart is that our design is rooted in strategy. What are your goals? Who is your customer? What problems are we solving?

Every design decision is informed by the the answer to those questions. That’s why each of our projects begins with a deep dive discovery process. Because our job is not to build you something pretty, but to build you something that drives results.

Are we experts in our field? Absolutely. But so are you. We don’t believe in the “my way or the highway” approach that many agencies are taking these days. After all, nobody knows your business better than you. The real magic happens when we can bring both our expertise to the table in a collaborative partnership.
